16U O’Donnell Wins Second Tournament Championship to Finish Inaugural Season
16U NOVA Cavaliers (O’Donnell) FYBA Summer Hoop Challenge Recap
Alexandria, VA – The 16U NOVA Cavaliers (O’Donnell) completed their first season together with a impressive Championship in the FYBA Hoop Challenge at Hayfield high school on Sunday.
The five man team of Luke Andress, Mikey Briody, David Gent, Jelani Murray and Daniel Wheeler finished the tournament 3-0. NOVA defeated Nighthawks 44-24 in the opening game of the bracket play, then overcame a 9 point second half deficit in a comeback thriller victory (38-35) over the host, FYBA Select. In the Championship game, the Cavs fought off Team Impact from Woodbridge,VA by the final score of 47-36 to earn their second tournament title of the season. Andress led all scorers with a game-high 23 points; including 4 three-pointers in the final.
The Cavaliers organization would like to thank all the families and players from 16U-O’Donnell for their commitment throughout the entire season. Most of all, a big thank goes out to Coach O’Donnell and Coach Kessler for their dedication to the team. Great job and we look forward to their return next year!
