16U-Lin Cavaliers Finished 3-1 at EMU Fall Team Camp
Harrisonburg, VA – NOVA Cavaliers (Lin) conclude the 2014 season with a one-day Team Camp event at Eastern Mennonite University. The Cavs dropped their first game to Luray 49-48, before reeling off three consecutive victories over Rock Ridge, Skyline and Turner Ashby. NOVA went 3-1 in the tournament and finished the season with the overall record of 29-14.
In the first contest of the day, despite possessing a 4 point lead with just under a minute left against Luray, the Cavs could not secure the victory as their miscues in the final minute cost them a winnable game. NOVA bounced back though in the next one, as they defeated the new high school from Ashburn- Rock Ridge, in a wild affair; guard Seamus Maloney (WT Woodson) hit a unbelievable fade-away shot in the corner to help the Cavs win at the buzzer in overtime.
NOVA regrouped after the mid-day break and defeated Skyline in an all-around team effort. Bishop Ireton’s Andrew Dinh had a stellar performance to lead the Cavs to the victory. In the finale, Cavaliers faced off two talented guards from Turner Ashby and the game quickly turned into a shootout. After trailing by one point at halftime, NOVA put together a solid 13-5 run to seize control of the game. Cavaliers sealed the win down the stretch and pulled off their most impressive win on the day.
The Cavs wrap up the 2014 season on a positive note. It was another successful year for a core of players that is now 73-57 in the past three seasons. Cavaliers will close the year with a team banquet in early November. We want to wish the best of luck to all the NOVA Cavs in the upcoming off-season!
