Collision in the Capital Presented by Zero Gravity Recap

Coming off a very competitive weekend at the Pittsburgh Jam Fest, NOVA Cavaliers (Lin) had a strong showing at the Zero Gravity’s Collision in the Capital tournament at Catholic University in Washington DC this past weekend.

NOVA defeated Team Pro Look (McKinney) 44-29 and NOVA Suns 41-17 in the first day of actions at the NEW 24 Fitness at District Heights, MD.  On Sunday, they advanced into the semifinal after beating Columbia Ravens (Hill) 49-27 in the morning and finished 3-0 in pool play.  Seamus Maloney led the way with 10 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Nate Shafer with a solid 8 points and 9 rebounds performance.

Cavaliers then faced another Columbia Ravens (Hightower) team in the semifinal.  Shafer turned in his most dominant game of the tournament, as he finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 blocks to help NOVA advance into the Championship game.  Maloney and Danny Krug each had 14 and 12 points to pace the Cavs.

In the tournament final, the Cavs lost a back-and-forth contest against NOVA GameChangers.  Despite Krug’s game-high 20 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field, Cavaliers failed to knock down a couple shots in the final minute to tie the game.  The final score was 51-46.

NOVA Cavaliers finished the tournament 4-1 and improved their record to 7-4 on the season.  They will play in the Potomac Valley Regional Qualifier next weekend in attempt to qualify for the AAU Nationals.
