Saturday, April 14th- NOVA Cavs 43- Fairfax Stars Premier Showcase 18. The 2012 season began for the 14u Cavaliers with an impressive double digit victory over Fairfax Stars. By using a stymied half-court defense, the scrappy Cavs team held their opponent to just 10 total first half points. The Cavaliers used several different players scoring from all over the floor, racing out to a big lead and never looked back to clinch their first win of the year. With the win, the Cavs will take on ETU Warriors next with a opportunity to take first seed in pool-play.
Saturday, April 14th- NOVA Cavs 66 – ETU Warriors 18. Cavaliers once again had a strong performance in their second game of the tournament, defeating the ETU Warriors from Silver Spring, MD to snatch first place in BRYC Tar Heels Open Classic pool-play. The Cavs used another balanced scoring attack, racing out to an early lead midway through the first half and coasted rest of the way for the victory. Guard Andrew Dinh had a special performance; as he had multiple steals and fast break lay-ups to break the game open. They will take on Fairfax Stars Maroon team next in the semifinal of the tournament.
Sunday, April 15th- NOVA Cavs 53 – Fairfax Stars Maroon 45. Despite William Unterkofler’s 18 first half points, the Cavaliers fell to the Fairfax Stars Maroon team. The first half featured a back and forth affair between both teams as they exchanged leads with one another before settling for a 24 tie at the half. In the second half, the Stars took a 6 point lead that proved to be the edge as the Cavs were never able to make the comeback despite cutting the deficit. The Cavs lost by the final margin of 8 points. They will take on ETU Warriors next in the consolation game.
Sunday, April 15th- NOVA Cavs 67 – ETU Warriors 30. The Cavs finished up their first tournament of the year with another double digit victory over the Warriors. Both the starters and the bench had a solid performance, as they secured a winning tournament record for the first time in this young season. Seamus Maloney had a great performance; scoring 7 straight points to open the second half and setting the tone for the game. The Cavaliers finished with a 3-1 record and will travel across the beltway to participate in the DII Potomac Valley Regional Qualifier this coming weekend at the Capital Sports Complex (District Heights, MD).
