April 16 – 17th Weekend Tournament Recap
NOVA Cavs 17U-Sawitzky Team Photo at St. Alban’s (DC) after winning Gold Bracket Championship at Big Shots MD Certified this weekend
Washington DC / Richmond, VA – Eight of the NOVA Cavalier teams were in action this weekend in Washington DC and Richmond, Virginia.
12U, 14U and 15U-Frate Cavaliers were down at Richmond in the Southern Showdown presented by Zero Gravity. 12U Sullender team finished the weekend with a 1-2 record, with a win over NOVA Suns in the VCU Siegel Center main court. 15U-Frate also completed the tournament with the same record. 14U Cavs dropped their first game to VA Panthers from Tidewater area, then rolled off with two consecutive victories over Peninsula Primetime and Foundation Academy. They finished 2-1 in the tournament.
At Catholic University this weekend, NOVA Cavs 15U-Dashti had a solid tournament in the MD Flames Regional Warm-up. They finished 2-1. 16U Cavs had a fantastic weekend – with big win over 17U DMV Running Rebels, Urbana Elite and MD Hoopmasters to capture first place finish in the tournament.
The best performance of the weekend goes out to 17U NOVA Cavaliers-Sawitzky in the Big Shots MD Certified event in Washington DC. Cavs went 3-0 and won the Gold Bracket Championship. Sami El-Rafey (Langley) and Tique Yarbrough (Tuscarora) played well all weekend long, while Bishop Ireton’s Joey Hamer was named Tournament MVP. 17U Corish Cavs also finished 2-1 in the Big Shots tournament in the SLAM division. Coach Corish’s team was led by Khalil Williams-Diggins, Johnny Corish and James Diluigi throughout the weekend.
Next weekend, the two top NOVA Cavaliers teams in the organization will participate in the Hoop Group Pittsburgh JamFest. Look for the schedule to be publish very soon.
