April 18 – 19th Weekend Recap

NOVA Cavs 16U-Corish Championship Photo at Mary Washington University after winning the Championship at Big Time Hoops Mid-Atlantic Showcase this weekend

 

Fredericksburg, VA –  Six of the NOVA Cavalier teams were in action this past weekend at the Big Time Hoops Mid-Atlantic Showcase at Fredericksburg, Virginia.

NOVA Cavaliers 11U team fare against stiff competitions from Hoop Nation, Team Ultimate and Phemon Basketball throughout the weekend.  Coach Sullender’s battled throughout the weekend and finished 0-3 despite the strong effort.  The 14U team completed their second tournament of the season with a 1-3 record this past weekend.  Coach Frate’s squad defeated Germantown Heat Orange to begin Saturday, then lost three consecutive games to Culpeper Heat, VA Kings Elite, and Loudoun FLEXX Premier on Sunday.

Both the 13U and 15U NOVA Cavaliers played well throughout the Mid-Atlantic Showcase and finished with a 3-1 record.  Coach Weeren’s 7th grade team had a impressive 48-34 win over Jaguars Elite on Saturday morning, then they turned around and beat Germantown Heat White with a decisive 68-45 victory to cap off the first day of action.  On Sunday, the Cavaliers lost to Team Havoc 55-49 in a highly entertaining affair.  NOVA wrapped up the last game of the tournament with a big win over Culpeper Heat to finish 2nd place in pool-play.

Coach Gray-Mende’s 9th grade Cavs took home the first place hardware with wins over Fredericksburg Heat (62-58), Germantown Heat Whitsett (60-58) and Kingdom Hustle (51-47).  Despite the loss to West Virginia Select on Sunday morning, the Cavaliers finished the tournament as the Champion based on the tiebreakers.  Big congratulation goes out to the 15U Cavs for their first tournament championship of the year!

In the two oldest age levels, Coach Corish’s 16U NOVA Cavs took home the Championship while Coach Knoche’s team had a strong showing at Mary Washington University.  The 17U-Knoche Cavaliers finished the weekend with a 1-2 record, but played well in all three contests.  Meanwhile, the 16U-Corish steamrolled through the competition with wins over Hurricanes, Fairfax Stars – Hamrock, 301 Ballers, and NOVA Heat to advance into the final.  In the Championship game, the Cavaliers won in a convincing fashion over Culpeper Blue Thunder to take home the title.  Great job 16U-Corish Cavs!

16U-Corish, 16U-Sawitzky, 17U-O’Donnell, 17U-Lin will all be in action next weekend at the nationally recognized Hoop Group Pittsburgh Jam Fest.  Good luck to all the teams travelling up to compete against some of the nation’s best talents!
