April 2 – 3rd Weekend Tournament Recap
NOVA Cavs 17U-Sawitzky Team Photo at Mary Washington University after winning the Silver Championship at Mid-Atlantic Showcase this weekend
Fredericksburg, VA / Hyattsville, MD – Seven of the NOVA Cavalier teams were in action in the opening weekend of 2016 AAU season.
12U, 13U, 14U, 15U-Frate, 16U and 17U-Sawitzky Cavaliers were down at Fredericksburg in the Mid-Atlantic Showcase presented by Big Time Hoops. 12U Sullender team finished the weekend with a 2-1 record, with victories over Falmouth Tide and Culpeper Blue Thunder. 13U Boltersdorf also made their NOVA Cavs debut and complete the weekend with 1-2 record. They snatched the first win of the season with a convincing victory over Foundation Academy on Sunday. Congratulation goes out to Coach Boltersdorf and his team!!
Both the 14U and 15U-Frate Cavs lost in the tournament final and finished as the runner-up. It was a strong outing for both ball clubs, while the 16U Cavs team lost a nail biter on Sunday and went 1-2 on the weekend. The best performances goes out to both the 17U NOVA Cavaliers teams, as Coach Sawitzky’s 17U squad went 3-1 and won the Silver Bracket Championship. Tuscarora’s Tique Yarbrough and Marshall’s Jordan James had two monstrous dunks in the tournament final, which help the Cavs defeat Loudoun Force Xtreme.
17U Corish Cavs start the season on a positive note by winning three straight games in the MD Flames Fast Break Shootout in Hyattsville, MD. West Potomac’s Khalil Williams-Diggins paced the Cavs with 15 pts in the first game, while Madison’s Johnny Corish had 14 in the tournament finale. Newest addition also from West Potomac – Idaresit Ekpuk put on a highlight with a serious put-back dunk on Sunday. The Cavs will look to carry this momentum into the April college live period in two weeks.
Next weekend, three of the NOVA Cavaliers organization will participate in the BRYC Tar Heels Open Classic. Look for the schedule to be publish by Wednesday.
