April 28th – 30th Weekend Tournament Recap

NOVA Cavs 15U-Lin winning the Hoop Group Pittsburgh Jam Fest Gold Bracket this past weekend at the David Lawrence Convention Center

Pittsburgh, PA / Hyattsville, MD / Fairfax, VA –  Five of the NOVA Cavalier teams were in action this weekend in the DMV area.

15U-Lin, 16U and 17U teams represented the Cavs in the prestigious Hoop Group Pittsburgh Jam Fest at the David Lawrence Convention Center this past weekend.  On a grand-scale, all three teams competed and repp’ed the program very well.  Coach Gray-Mendes team won their opening round against Game 7 from New York area, then lost a competitive second round game vs. Murphy AC team from Ohio.  In the last game of the tournament, the 17U Cavs suffered a tough overtime loss to PW Hoyas, but many players stepped up and had terrific weekend for the Cavs, led by Andrew Powers (South Lakes), Cleo Green (Freedom South-Riding) and Greg Rowson (Robinson).

The 16U team finished the tournament with a solid 2-1 record.  Coach Dashti’s team defeated New Jersey United Basketball in the first round on Saturday, then dropped a 40-50 decision to Severn Elite from Maryland, but the Cavs recovered on Sunday and took down Hangtime and came home on a positive note.  It was a strong showing for Coach Dashti’s group.
