14U-Lin Cavs Finished First Season with Back-Back Victories

Sunday, October 28th- NOVA Cavs 49 – Maryland Panthers CM 43. Behind a balanced scoring attack, the 14U Cavaliers complete their first season together with consecutive victories on Sunday. NOVA were down 18-10 midway through the half, when Alex Beckett sparked the team with some timely baskets to begin a 9-0 run. Cavs used the momentum swing to snatch a 29-24 lead at the half. In the second half, the lead was stretched to double digits before NOVA settled for a 6 point win in the end.Cavs were led by Paulino Matondo with 10 points, followed by Alex Beckett with 7 points. NOVA finished the Potomac Valley Fall League play with a 4-4 record. They will take the winter off as all the players return to their High School teams.

Sunday, October 28th- NOVA Cavs 51 – Team New Dynasty 46. Cavs conclude their last weekend of games together with an exciting match-up against Team New Dynasty. Having faced each other only a couple weeks ago, NOVA and New Dynasty slugged it out in the first half in a high scoring affair. Cavaliers were led by Point Guard Andrew Dinh, who punished the aggressive defense of New Dynasty by attacking the basket relentlessly. The result was a 31 first half points for NOVA, as they roll in the half at a dead knot tie.In the second half, New Dynasty took an early and controlled the game until the final minutes. After an acrobatic left-handed finish by Andrew Dinh to pull Cavs deficit to 43-42, Paulino Matondo came up with a critical steal and raced to the other end for a break away ‘And 1’ finish; it was NOVA’s first lead in the second half. With the Cavs up by one point and less than 20 seconds to play, Nate Shafer came up with a crucial offensive rebound off of a missed free throw. The play sealed the Cavs with an deserving victory, as they won by the final score of 51-46 in the end.
