Cavaliers Roll!!! Three 1st Place and a 2nd Place finish for the weekend

16U (Gray-Mendes)

16U Gray-Mendes at Discovery Center

Coach Gray-Mendes 16U Cavs team wins their first tournament of the season with a 48-30 over CBSA Hoyas this past weekend at the MD Flames Summer Challenge. Cavaliers avenged a 20 points loss to the Hoyas earlier on Saturday in the preliminary, as they turned an all-around team effort into a decisive blow out over the Hoyas in the Championship game. Cavaliers also defeated Blazing Bulls earlier on Saturday, which allowed them to advance back into the tournament final for the rematch.

Congrats to the 16U as they will take the upcoming weekend off due to HS team camp events. They will be playing Charm City and Bowie TNT July 4th Classicsin the following weekends.

15U (Knoche)

Coach Knoche’s 15U Cavs team concludes their season with a 51-41 win over IBA Black on Sunday at MD Flames Summer Challenge. The victory secured a Silver finish for NOVA, as they defeated Queens Express and lost to MADE Attack on Saturday during the preliminary. Cavaliers completed the tournament with a 2-1 record and earned their first medals on season. Congratulation to the 15U team for a great year!

15U (Lin)

The 15U Cavs (Lin), in one of their final tune-ups before the USBA Nationals in Myrtle Beach, SC went 3-0 on Saturday, June 15 in the Battle at the Brock at Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA. The Cavs cruised to a 67-37 victory over the Prince William Hoyas in their opening game. In a balanced scoring attack, Nate Shafer (14 pts), Nathan Orrick (12 points) and William Unterkofler (12 points) paced the Cavs as they led from start to finish.

After a lengthy layoff and a pregame meal at Cracker Barrel, the Cavs faced a tough squad in the Fredericksburg Runnin’ Rebels. Paulino Matondo’s four three pointers mid-way through the second half jump started the Cavs as they held on for a 56-44 victory. Nate Shafer and Brendan Doyle provided a strong presence in the paint with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

In the nightcap, the Cavs faced a tough Fredericksburg Heat team. Vishal Akula’s three quick treys carried the Cavs in the first half, while Paulino Matondo (14 points) and William Unterkofler (14 points), each made big plays down the stretch. Nate Shafer’s block highlighted a defensive stop in the Heat’s final possession as the Cavs continued to show toughness in securing the victory in an intense finish.

11U (Weeren)

11U Weeren at Discovery Center

Coach Weeren’s 11U Cavaliers team wrapped up their second straight successful tournament on Father’s day weekend. NOVA defeated Loudoun Xpress and Delaware Dribblers on Saturday, then used a 17-2 in the first half to put Swarm away on Sunday for a 42-18 victory. NOVA finished 3-0 in the MD Flames Summer Challenge and finished with Gold Medals; it was their second consecutive tournament in which they’ have either finished as the Champion or Runner-up.
