June 12 – 14th Weekend Tournament Recap
NOVA Cavs 16U-Corish Team Photo at Frederick Douglass high school after winning the Championship at Maryland Invitational Tournament (MIT) this weekend
Ashland, VA / Hyattsville, MD – Nine of the NOVA Cavalier teams were in action this weekend.
11U, 13U, 15U and 17U-Lin Cavaliers were down at Randolph Macon College in the Battle at the Brock tournament. 11U Sullender wrapped up the AAU portion of their season with a 3-0 record. It was also a good day for the 13U Weeren team, who finished 3-0 for the tournament as well and is now 6-1 in their past two weekends. 15U Gray-Mendes team went 1-2 on the weekend, while 17U-Lin finished 2-1 in Ashland; this pushed the Cavs to 16-6 record on the season and they will take rest of the June month off.
16U Corish Cavs is on a roll; winning their third tournament championship in their past four tournaments at the prestigious Maryland Invitational Tournament (MIT) in PG County, MD. The tournament best highlight came from Dematha’s guard James Diluigi, who nailed a 3/4 court shot at the buzzer to survive the quarterfinal. The MIT title marked the first time any Cavs team have won the tournament in 10 years. Way to go Coach Corish’s Cavaliers!
In other results, the 14U and 17U-Knoche Cavs each finished the MIT with 1-2 record. 17U-O’Donnell Cavaliers pulled off a big win over ProLook Gold in bracket play on Sunday, before bowing out a tough semifinal loss to Youth Interlock. 16U-Sawitzky was in the National Hoopfest in Martinsburg, WV. They finished 1-2 in the tournament with a good win on Sunday to cap off the weekend.
Next weekend, four of the NOVA Cavaliers organization will participate in tournaments around the DMV area. Look for the schedule to be publish by Wednesday.
