NOVA Eliminated from Bracket Play Despite a Solid Performance

Baltimore, MD (St. Francis Academy) June 30 – July 1st

Saturday, June 30th- NOVA Cavs 34 – Emory Elite 56. NOVA Cavaliers travelled up I-95 North in their first tournament in Baltimore, Maryland at the Charm City East Coast Summer Slam. In the first game of pool play, NOVA was blitzed by a talented Emory Elite team and found themselves quickly down by double digits in the first half of play. After they had finally settle down in the game, Cavaliers played some good basketball and actually out-scored Emory in the second half. However, the game had been decided long before that as NOVA dropped by the final margin of 22 points in the end. They will take on HC Dream Team next in the second game of pool play.

Saturday, June 30th- NOVA Cavs 49 – HC Dream Team 31. The Cavaliers bounced back from one of their most lopsided losses of the season with a satisfying 18 points victory over the team from Howard County, MD. NOVA was led by William Unterkofler’s hot shooting and Liam Zeya’s precision passing. With a balance attack, Cavaliers went into a halftime with a decisive lead and never trailed the rest of the contest. Despite a rocky finish to the end, Cavs sealed the victory as they played terrific defense down the stretch. They ended up with a big 18 points win in the end. The win clinch the number three seed for NOVA in the Bracket play. Cavs will take on Vienna Magic next in the semifinal.

Sunday, July 1st- NOVA Cavs 39 – Vienna Magic 46. Down to only 6 players, Cavaliers turned in one of their best performances of the season with a 7 point loss to Magic of Vienna. NOVA battled a talented Magic team in a back and forth seesaw affair, which had both teams traded baskets against one another throughout the second half of play. The Cavaliers were led by the trio attacks of Andrew Dinh, Nathan Orricks, and Vishal Aklua. Despite their solid play, Cavs ran out of steam late in the second half and faltered in the semifinal of the tournament. They will play in Potomac Valley TNT 4th of July Classic next weekend in Bowie, MD.
