Ellicott City, MD –  NOVA Cavaliers ruled the scene at the DC Metro Invitational presented by Harding Hoops at Ellicott City, MD this past weekend.  Three of the Cavs teams were crowned Tournament Champions at the popular Maryland event.

Coach Weeren’s 13U team begin the streak of NOVA Cavs dominance with a perfect 2-0 record on Saturday.  Cavaliers defeated Team Hustle and Germantown Heat during the pool play, then beat Harundale Hornets in the semifinal before taking down Bump N Run for the Tournament Championship.  It was truly an impressive weekend for the 13U/7th grade Cavs, as they only had five players in the championship game and still won in a convincing fashion.  Way to go NOVA.

The 14U Cavs also won the 8th grade Championship by ramming through the entire field undefeated.  Coach Frate’s team went 2-0 as well in the pool play, then won a very competitive bracket to take home the title.  It marked the second tournament championships on the season for the 14U team.  Meanwhile, Coach O’Donnell’s 17U Cavs went on an impressive run over the weekend with big wins over AYAC Hawks, Next Level Ballers and Edge Bulldogs.  The Cavs won their first AAU Tournament Championship of the year, with solid efforts from Chase Barrand, Mikey Briody, Jelani Murray, Eric and Blake Mintz, Augustin de Walque and David Ford.  Congratulation goes out to both teams!

10U and 11U NOVA Cavs were also in actions at the Commonwealth Classic presented by Loudoun Xpress AAU over the weekend.  Coach Ferrick’s 10U squad won 29-19 over NOVA Heat and lost a heartbreaking one point game (29-28) to the host, Loudoun Xpress.  They lost the third game 36-26 in the first round of bracket play to conclude the tournament with an 1-2 record.  Coach Sullender’s 11U team also lost three tough contests over the weekend, but showed some strong signs in competitive contests against LX5 Black, LBA Attack Blue, and Columbia Ravens.

In other Cavs results, the 16U-Sawitzky team went 1-2 in the NTBA National Qualifier and 15U Gray-Mendes went 0-3 in the DC Metro Invitational.  17U-Lin also participated in the Hall of Fame Spring Classic presented by Basketbull, as they finished 1-2 with losses to Connecticut Basketball Club (CBC, Detroit Piston’s Andre Drummond’s former Nike sponsored AAU team) 61-53 and Chris Ward Basketball Academy 51-50 in overtime.  Cavs finished the Springfield, Massachusetts trip with a 54-49 win over Connecticut Wizards in the consolation game.  It was a great overnight event for the veteran Cavs club at the historic basketball venue.

A couple of the NOVA Cavaliers will play this weekend in the Big Time Hoops VA College Showcase at Centreville and Westfield high school.  Look for the schedule to be publish by mid-week.
