Chantilly, VA –  Two of the NOVA Cavalier teams won the Championship at the VA College Showcase event this weekend presented by Big Time Hoops.

NOVA’s 14U/8th grade team won the Tournament Championship for the second consecutive weekend.  Coach Frate’s team split the pool play games with an 1-1 record, which included 53-25 win over Loudoun FLEXX Premier and 51-42 loss to Team Hatchett.  In the bracket play, Cavaliers defeated Chantilly Elite to reach the tournament final.  The Cavs then avenged the loss to Team Hatchett by defeating the #1 seed with an convincing margin on Sunday.  This marked the third Championships of the season for the 14U Cavs.  They will take next weekend off and participate at Battle of NOVA in two weeks.

Coach Corish’s 16U team finished the tournament undefeated with victories of Team Royals 66-64, Southern Maryland Wolverines 55-33 and Each One Teach One 38-35 during the pool-play.  In a rematch against Each One Teach One in the tournament final, Cavaliers used a well balanced offensive attack and won 56-53 to take home the Championship.  Madison duos of Johnny Corish and Riley Jorgenson, Marshall’s Jack Foley and Langley’s Isaac Peress paced the Cavs scoring for much of the weekend.  They will compete next weekend at the Adidas League of Nation Challenge in Loudoun, VA.

In other Cavs results, the 16U-Sawitzky team went 0-3 in the Big Shots DC Memorial Weekend with three down to the wire finishes with CBA (MD), Cecil Kirk, and Peninsula Prime Time.  15U Gray-Mendes finished 1-2 in the MD Future Stars Classic.  Some of the NOVA Cavaliers will be in action this upcoming weekend (5/30 – 5/31).  Look for the schedule to be publish by mid-week.
