Weekend of May 10-11 Recap for 17U and 16U-O’DonnellRichmond, VA/ Brandywine, MD – Congrats to 16U NOVA Cavaliers (O’Donnell) for finishing 3-0 and capturing first place in the May Flowers Classic at U-Turn Sports Academy in Richmond, VA this weekend.  16U Cavs defeated VA Heat and VA Rebels (10th grade) in the first two games on Saturday afternoon, before completing a double-digit deficit comeback against VA Rebels (11th grade) in the tournament finale.The 17U NOVA Cavaliers completed the Potomac Valley AAU Regional Qualifier with 3-2 record and a 3rd place finish.  They defeated Clarksburg All-Stars on Friday night, then lost to Rockville Stars before beating 301 Ballers to conclude the pool play.  On Sunday, the Cavs put on a valiant comeback […]

16U-Lin Bring Home the ‘Ship!

Potomac Valley AAU Regional Qualifier RecapNOVA Cavaliers (Lin) captured their first Potomac Valley AAU Regional Qualifier Championship in program’s history with a 4-1 weekend at Gwynn Park high school (Brandywine, MD).Cavs finished 2-1 in pool play with a 55-50 win over Alexandria Cardinal on Friday night; Nate Shafer led the way with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 blocks.  NOVA then squared off against Fairfax Stars in the second game of pool play on Saturday.  In a wild affair, Cavs dropped a 68-64 decision to the Stars despite a valiant comeback attempt in the end.  Danny Krug led the Cavs with 21 points and 7 rebounds.  Cavaliers concluded Saturday’s actions with a 67-27 decisive win over the 301 Ballers.  Seamus […]

Collision in the Capital Presented by Zero Gravity RecapComing off a very competitive weekend at the Pittsburgh Jam Fest, NOVA Cavaliers (Lin) had a strong showing at the Zero Gravity’s Collision in the Capital tournament at Catholic University in Washington DC this past weekend.NOVA defeated Team Pro Look (McKinney) 44-29 and NOVA Suns 41-17 in the first day of actions at the NEW 24 Fitness at District Heights, MD.  On Sunday, they advanced into the semifinal after beating Columbia Ravens (Hill) 49-27 in the morning and finished 3-0 in pool play.  Seamus Maloney led the way with 10 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Nate Shafer with a solid 8 points and 9 rebounds performance.Cavaliers then faced another Columbia Ravens […]

Road Trip Weekend Ended on a Buzzer-Beater Overtime LossThe NOVA Cavaliers played in an impressive tournament in Pittsburgh, but had hard luck in the games. In the first game of the weekend, the Cavs faced off against High Rise Elite from Connecticut.  Right off the opening tip, they were dealt quite a blow, as Avi Silberman was immediately injured and was out for the weekend.  Facing an towering front line, the Cavs battled.  Nate Shafer grabbed 10 rebounds to go with his 15 points and Seamus Maloney hit 3 three-pointers, but the Cavs shot 35.2% from the field.  High Rise eventually made a run and won, 69-45.In the second game, the Cavaliers played the Southern Maryland All-Stars. 15U Cavs Win the VA Hokies Spring Throw Down

Manassas, VA – Fueled by great ball movement and team basketball the 15U NOVA Cavaliers went 5-0 on the weekend, securing a tournament championship in the Virginia Hokies Spring Throw Down.In game 1 the Cavs jumped out to a 21 point halftime lead en route to a 60-35 win against the Virginia Hokies.  Next up on Saturday the Cavs played the NOVA Heat and cruised to a 60-18 win.Sunday morning, the Cavs faced the Prince William Gators for first place in the pool.  This game was back-and-forth early on and the Cavs gradually pulled away winning 63-46.  In the semis the Cavs faced another unbeaten team in the Winchester Rising Stars.  The first half was a game of runs with […]

16U-Lin Cavs Start Season Strong

Charm City Tournament RecapIn the debut of the season for 16u, the NOVA Cavaliers ran away with a win, beating the Baltimore Ballers.  The Cavs jumped out to a 42-10 lead at halftime behind 3 three-pointers from Seamus Maloney and 9 first half points from Avi Silberman, who finished a rebound shy of a double-double.  NOVA cruised through the second half with strong post play from Nate Shafer and Finn Gundersen en route to a commanding 63-19 win.The Cavaliers came out ice cold from the field in the second game of the day, starting 3 for 19.  But Danny Krug scored 7 straight points, kick-starting a 25-4 run to go into the half up 31-9.  Nate Shafer had 9 of […]

2014 Loudoun Invitational Recap

Congratulations to the 12U NOVA Cavaliers team for winning the Loudoun Invitational!!  The Cavs breezed through the pool play with a perfect 3-0 record, and then defeated Leesburg Basketball Club (White) and NOVA 94feet Blue in the playoff.  In the tournament final, NOVA defeated Loudoun Xpress (Red) 55-47 to take home their first title of the season.  Great job Cavs!The 10U Cavaliers also had a strong showing at the Loudoun Invitational.   In Coach Sullender’s season debut, the Cavs finished 2-1 in pool play and advanced into the Championship game, where they suffered a 38-19 loss in the hands of Loudoun Xpress.  The junior Cavs though showed resiliency throughout the tournament and ended up with a proud second place finish.The rest […]
