Flames Summer Challenge Tournament Recap

16U (Gray-Mendes)Coach Gray-Mendes 16U Cavs team wins their first tournament of the season with a 48-30 over CBSA Hoyas this past weekend at the MD Flames Summer Challenge. Cavaliers avenged a 20 points loss to the Hoyas earlier on Saturday in the preliminary, as they turned an all-around team effort into a decisive blow out over the Hoyas in the Championship game. Cavaliers also defeated Blazing Bulls earlier on Saturday, which allowed them to advance back into the tournament final for the rematch.Congrats to the 16U as they will take the upcoming weekend off due to HS team camp events. 14U Cavaliers Summer Breeze Champion!

Purcellville, Virginia (July 21st)– The Cavs opened up the tournament with a 38-33 win over the D1SA Spartans in a game of big runs by both teams.  In game two, the Cavs missed numerous easy buckets against the BRYC Tarheels, trailing in a low scoring affair with 6 minutes to go, before finishing the game on a 19-4 run to secure a 40-26 win.  On Sunday, the Cavs concluded pool play with a 73-26 win against the Dulles Defenders to win the pool. Congratulations to 11U NOVA Cavaliers (Weeren) for finishing Runner-up at the NOVA Cavs Summer Breeze

Purcellville, Virginia (August 1st)– Cavaliers defeated Catoctin Basketball and Dulles Defenders in pool-play, then won the semifinal against Martinsburg Bulldogs.In the tournament final, Cavs lost 32 – 30 to the eventual Champion of the tournament- Flexx All-Stars.The tournament conclude a successful season for the 11U Cavs, which finished 10 wins and 4 losses on the year; including one Championship and two Runner-up accomplishments. Way to go Junior Cavs!!

Reston, VA (South Lakes HS) June 1st – 2ndCongrats to the 15U Nova Cavs (Lin) for winning the championship of the Battle of Nova Invitational, held at McLean and South Lakes HS in Northern Virginia June 1-2.The Cavs began the weekend with two decisive wins, opening play on Saturday with a 53-19 victory over Basics First and finishing the day with a 51-28 win over The Classics. On Sunday, in a game that neither coach likes to play, Coach Lin’s Cavs knocked off their fellow 15U Cavs (Knoche) team by a score of 40-21. Behind a dominant stretch by Paulino Matondo, the Cavaliers turned a 28-17 lead into a 42-17 margin and cruised to a 44-23 victory. 15U-Lin BRYC Tarheels Open Classic Tournament Champion

Clifton, VA (Centreville HS) April 13 – 14thSunday, April 14th- NOVA Cavs 58 – Alexandria Cardinals 32. NOVA Cavs completed their journey at the BRYC Tar heels Open Classic with a 58-32 win over Cardinals in the Final. Cavaliers handled an athletic and talented team from Alexandria by controlling the pace of the game. Patrick Hesse, Brendan Doyle, Nate Shafer and Nathan Orrick contributed with multiple rebounds, while guard Seamus Maloney and Andrew Dinh dictated the tempo with their efficient play. Cavaliers won their first ever tournament together as a group.
