NOVA Takes Home Classic Bronze at AAU DIII Nationals in Hampton

Hampton, VA (Boo Williams Sportsplex) July 28 – 31stNOVA Cavs 56 – DC Stars 49.  The 15U NOVA Cavaliers (Dixon) finished their last tournament of the season with a special achievement. Despite losing their first two games in the AAU DIII National Championship Tournament, the Cavs made a monster run in the Classic Bracket before bowing out in the semifinal to the eventual Champion- Seven Cities BWSL 82-75 in overtime. Led by Nate Thatcher (Falls Church HS, Class of 2015), Sam Freund (Marshall HS), and Joey Powell (Robinson HS), NOVA went 4-1 in their last five games during the last two days of the tournament to seize the Third Place finish. Junior Cavs Win First Tournament of the Year

Purecellville, VA (Loudoun Valley HS) July 14 – 15thSaturday July 14th – Sunday July 15th NOVA Cavs 46 – Gainesville Elite (Black) 35. The 10U NOVA Cavaliers (Weeren) completed their last tournament of the season by winning the first annual NOVA Cavs Summer Breeze at Loudoun Valley HS. Cavalier’s road to the Final was not an easy path, as they finished 2-0 in pool play with hard-earned victories over Catoctin Basketball Club (CBC) and Gainesville Elite (Silver). NOVA Cavaliers travelled up I-95 North in their first tournament in Baltimore, Maryland at the Charm City East Coast Summer Slam. In the first game of pool play, NOVA was blitzed by a talented Emory Elite team and found themselves quickly down by double digits in the first half of play. After they had finally settle down in the game, Cavaliers played some good basketball and actually out-scored Emory in the second half. The 14U NOVA Cavs entered their summer portion of the season by participating in the Potomac Valley Father’s Day Bump II Classic hosted by MD Mavericks. In their first game of pool play, the Cavaliers could not stop the hot shooting Columbia Ravens team and dropped a close game by 4 points. In the first game, they fought off a feisty 94Feet team to earn a narrowing two point victory. NOVA Cavs traveled down the beltway and head to the heart of PG County for the first time all season. In the opening game of the PVAAU DII District Qualifier, Cavaliers used a strong production off the bench and took a double digit lead midway through the 2nd QT. Nathan Orrick led the attack, scoring off variety midrange jump-shots that help Cavs to a lead that they never relinguished. The 2012 season began for the 14u Cavaliers with an impressive double digit victory over Fairfax Stars. By using a stymied half-court defense, the scrappy Cavs team held their opponent to just 10 total first half points. The Cavaliers used several different players scoring from all over the floor, racing out to a big lead and never looked back to clinch their first win of the year.
